How To Unblock Sites At School

It seems that a website is being blocked? How terrible! Fortunately, it is possible to work around the school filter and access the site anyway.

The best way of unblocking websites at school is to use a proxy. You can get on any site that is blocked by using this method.

Instructions:
Enter the website address into the box below. The default settings should work fine for Myspace and Facebook, but you can change the settings below the URL box to your liking. Disabling cookies and Javascript will most likely prevent you from being able to access Myspace or Facebook, but should be fine for other sites where you don't have to log in.

Please note that because of new technology and fancy script features added to Myspace and Facebook, the site will look different (basically it'll be using the 'mobile' version of the site - the same version you'd see if you access Myspace or Facebook from your cellphone). All the basics should work just fine though, and everything should load faster because of this. One other note, if you find that the login page is in French, no worries, after you log in everything should be English again (or whatever language you normally have it as). This may happen because this server is in France so Myspace thinks you're in France... when it's actually the proxy that is.

How does this work?

A proxy is a kind of gateway that sit between your computer and the site you want to go to. The proxy visits the site instead of you, accesses the page, and sends it on to you. So the site you're trying to visit only sees the proxy's IP. So actually you are browsing websites in an indirect way. School firewalls only see you accessing the proxy, not the real site.

Another way of unblocking any website at school is by setting up your own proxy tool. This is more complicated than using a proxy but it's a lot nicer to have because if they block it, you can make another. How to do this is not in this guide, if you do a search for "How to make your own proxy" you will find info. You can even earn money from your proxy by letting people advertise on it.

Other ways to get on most websites are by using sites that translate pages, like Google Translate or Babelfish. You can also try using Google's cache copy of the site. Unfortunately, you can't login that way, so you're better off using proxies for Myspace and Facebook, though these tips are good for most other sites.
